Vlogging with the Sony FX3

Taryll:

“Just yesterday I posted my Fx3 video, the camera reveal. While i was making the vlog i thought one thing. Then when I got back and i looked at the footage i thought another. I just wanted to share some of the things that crossed my mind. Pretty much the thoughts before during and after how is that.

Today I wanted to talk about some of my thoughts just things i came accross using the FX3. I knew this wasn’t going to be as easy as the Pocket 2 and the Zv1 because it’s a bigger camera. It’s a bigger camera, it’s heavier camera and it’s a more serious camera.

The biggest difference between the Pocket 2 and the Zv1 and the FX3 is number one the FX3 is a full frame camera which is a way bigger sensor whereas the others are i don’t know. They’re one inch sensors maybe i don’t know but they are not full-frame camera.

The detail the quality. Homework nobody really enjoys it but we all got to do it. Everything is just better on that FX3. Everybody knows that i’ts like five times the price should be  but when I use the Sony Zv1 and when I use the the Pocket 2 i’m pretty  much in automatic mode. I’m in auto mode all the iso all the shutter speed  all of that is pretty much handled for you. You’re just in front of the camera doing your thing with the Fx3.

I was not in automatic mode i was in manual mode everything manually. That made it hard I had to stop and set my shots up and I didn’t do a good job of it.  It kind of takes you out of the creative mode. It’s very hard to be in front of the camera in front of this camera and just capture the moment. Camera like this . i think it’s more designed for people to be behind it. So you can focus on what you’re capturing. You want to get the best from this camera that you can . I can focus on getting the shot right I can focus on the frame I can focus on making sure it’s not overexposed or underexposed and everything is the way it should be at least to what I know.

But when you’re in front of the camera it’s hard to focus on all of that and be in front of it and do this. You got to make sure all your settings are correct unless I do an automatic mode. I haven’t really figured that out because this is my first time vlogging with it. I don’t know if i should be in auto mode it does all these things for you’re just letting the camera do that. That’s not cheating but you’re not really taking control of the camera but maybe when you’re vlogging maybe that’s okay. Maybe it’s okay to just leave it in auto mode and just let it do it’s thing and you do your thing and you get what you get, And then when you get behind the camera maybe you can take it off of auto mode and you can go in manual mode. And you can set the things up the way you want to set them up.

I don’t know it seems like a lot of thinking woth the pocket 2 and the Zv 1 it’s just turn it on and go. With the Fx3 you want it to look as good as you can make i tand you expect it to look a certain way. I was thinking okay this is cool but it’s a little bit challenging to vlog with this thing. It’s not a point and shoot  camera. I’ll most likely use the Pocket 2 that’s what I was thinking when I was filming after. When I put the footage into final cut and i saw the quality of the Fx3 I liked it.

I thought it was. I thought it was it was a setup as it should be. Its just a different level it’s worth it. So i’m trying to figure out how to do this. I want to figure out how to use my Fx3 as a vlogging camera but yet still be able to not think about what i’m doing with the camera.

If that is just gonna come with time and practice if you could just put in auto mode and let the camera just do what it does and whatever happens happens.    That’s what i’m doing with the Pocket 2. That’s what I’m doing with the Zv1. Why not do it with the Fx3. I’m not great at color grading and color correcting all of that stuff is it uh, that’s a whole different ball game. I’ll get there but that’s a lot wth S. Log3. It’s a different picture profile. It’s a flat profile. So there is very minimal color and you add the color later.

Taj is going to help me with that. Stu’s been helping. Taj has been helping me but for vlogging I think it’s better. I think it’s easier if I just use a creative profile of it I just put in a semitone which is another picture profile that this camera has. I don’t know a part of me feels like I’m cheating but I’m not cheating I guess because  why they have that if they don’t want you to use it.

What is the best way to vlog with this camera. Auto mode, picture profiles, creative looks. I’m trying to figure that out. That’s all I’m trying to say. I guess you gotta just keep doing it. You gotta keep doing it and you gotta stick wit hit. I’ll figure out what works, what doesn’t/ It’s almost like preseason we’ve started. But we haven’t. We’re just  getting warmed up. Those are just random thoughts.

I got the camera. I want to use it. i’m going to use it. I want to keep it simple. I want to keep it minimal. I just want to focus on doing this. We’re going to figure it out. We’re going to figure it out. Using the Fx3 because while i was making the vlog i had one thing in my head. I had while i was making the vlog I pretty much had. While i was making the vlog I thought one thing and then when I got through then when i got back and I looked at the footage and I started editing the video i thought another. So I wanted to just share that with you guys. I just wanted to share some of the things that came across my mind while I was making the vlog. Pretty much the thoughts before during and after. How’s that.”
